I don't mean to ruffle any feathers here, but i would be traveling to SA pretty soon but i have a slight concern if there would be any racism because i have had experienced it when i traveled in Asia. Basically Im neither white nor black or Asian, well i would say half white half thai so does that mean im a "coloured" or should i not worry about this at all? Of course there are lingering racist attitudes on the part of some South Africans I hope a minority but their overt expression is heavily frowned upon even between locals.

When meeting someone for the first time it is good to start with a brief introduction, including who you are and where you are from. It is helpful to have some knowledge about South Africa, its tourist destinations and various ethnic groups. Asking a person about their ethnicity might be helpful in determining how to say hello in the local dialect. This act in itself could convey a sincere interest in the person and their culture.

Four police officers in Cape Town are to be suspended after dragging a naked man from a house in an eviction caught on video. Footage shows the man being thrown to the ground and stopped from re-entering the shack in Khayelitsha settlement. When he manages to break free and run into the home made of corrugated iron, its front wall is ripped off leaving him exposed. In a statement on Wednesday evening, the city of Cape Town's safety and security chief Richard Bosman said: "We are in the process of suspending four staff members involved in the incident, pending the outcome of the investigation. We are saddened by the conduct depicted on the video footage, and we do not condone any forceful and dehumanising conduct by our staff members.

O n a cold and wet morning, a large group of protesters — many of them bare- breasted — gathered to protest on the Rhodes university campus in Grahamstown, South Africa. They marched defiantly, having just published a controversial list naming alleged campus rapists in order to highlight their concerns that the university was too slow in addressing the complaints of survivors. A few days later, a solidarity protest took place at the University of the Witswatersrand in Johannesburg. Their nakedness grabbed national headlines and forced the country to pay attention.
